Match report Ticknall travelled to Denby for their first Abbey Glass Division 1 league fixture of the 2009 season with a full strength side.

Having won the toss newly elected Captain, Luke Harvey (20) decided to bat first and produced a steady opening partnership of 33 with Jonathan Thompstone (7). The ball seamed about early in Ticknall's innings which made it tricky for the top order to score freely with Ticknall finding themselves at 39 for 3 in the 11th over.

Following this Shahid Khan (92*), batting at 4, showed his class and played some outstanding shots producing solid partnerships of 46 with Ryan Cowley (16) and 62 with Rupert Scott-Jones (19). Also a further brief venture of 28 runs with Julian Hornsey (6) helped to push the score towards 200 with Ticknall eventually being bowled out for 203 in 49.1 overs on a drying wicket.

After tea Denby opened their innings in very windy conditions, which made it difficult for Ticknall's bowlers and ensured that the hosts got off to a steady start losing their 1st wicket for 33 runs. Shortly after this there was a key moment in the match with Greenhalgh being dropped at extra cover whilst only on 6. Following this Denby then pushed on with Perry-Taylor (69) and Greenhalgh (85 not out) making it difficult for Ticknall, and easier for them batting on a non-seaming wicket, producing an excellent partnership of 98. A further late stand of 54 by Greenhalgh and Poplar (13*) saw Denby pass Ticknall's total in the 45th over ending on 205 for 4.

Ticknall's bowlers of Cowley (2-61), Khan (2-52) and Vice-Captain Graham Chamberlain (0-37) persevered throughout in not ideal conditions which will stand them in good stead for the season. Further positives from the match was Ticknall's team spirit on and off the field. A focus area for Ticknall will be to develop in their fielding.
