09 Mar 2010 : Last Man Stands!
Dear Cricketer,
Last Man Stands is finally starting in Derby this year after taking the world by storm. Please have a look at http://www.lastmanstands.com/index.html to get a flavour of what all the talk is about. This will give you an insight as to what it's all about and feel free to browse the site and see what's on offer. In short summary of what it is about: · 20/20 style cricket · 5 Ball overs · 8 players a side · 6 hit last ball of innings count 12 · Double plays possible, catch and run out · Last man remains in when 7 wickets have fallen The competition is already getting played across the world and what's nice about the website is that every player get ranked against others in their team, league and everyone else in the world, so too the teams. Our league will only have six teams, but the winning team gets to play in the National Finals where the winners will go through to play in the World Championships in Brisbane in November, all expenses paid! As I mentioned there are only space for 6 teams, 3 have already entered so please if you feel you can get some of your mates together and form a team, enter a club team or an offive or business team please enter it now! Entry Fee is £120 per team but you'll get 8 coloured shirts for free. Closing date is Monday 15th March, but as I said there are only three more slots left, so please enter it straight away. You don't have to pay your fees now, just secure your spot. Please go to www.lastmanstands.com/derby to register your team today. Once all six teams have registered we'll agree on the best suitable day to play, most likely Sunday afternoons (games last just over 2 hours) but trying to avoid cup clashes. The venue hasn't been decided yet, but a couple of clubs have already expressed interest. If you feel you just want to register as a player, please let me know and we can try and register you as a ringer, but for now the important thing is to fill the league and have six reliable managers ensuring Last Man Stands Derby is as successful as it is around the world! Feel free to contact me should you have any questions. Regards, Ben de Vos derby@lastmanstands.com07530 042606

27 Nov 2009 : Paul Borrington in Aussie waiting Game!
Paul Borrington in Aussie waiting Game!Ticknall and Derbyshire’s Paul Borrington is in the unusual position of being 58 not out – for a whole week.

The 21-year-old batsman has got his winter adventure in Australia off to a successful start with scores of 68 and 25 prior to last weekend’s unbeaten half-century.

Essentially, Borrington’s most recent innings guided Midland Guilford to victory against Wanneroo.

However, the rules of the tournament dictate that the winning side now have the opportunity to push for an outright victory on the second day of the match which takes place this coming weekend, thus securing them a far more generous helping of competition points.

The strength of the Western Australian competition is highlighted by the fact that Midland Guilford had lost five matches out of five prior to Borrington’s arrival and that the Derbyshire man came up against former Worcestershire overseas player Steve Magoffin and full Australia international Adam Voges in the match against Melville two weeks ago.

As an Englishman in an Australian league, Borrington is naturally copping his fair share of flack from opposition bowlers.

He is, however, enjoying the experience of a new country and new cricketing conditions and has commented on the intensity of the training session down under.

Midland Guilford run four senior teams and the training Sessions, which continue long into the night, under floodlights, are attended by huge numbers of cricketers and the intensity level is remarkably high.
